Why Justice?

The many injustices that have persisted in Turkey over time continue to affect our social relations, our sense of trust, and our capacity to live together. Rethinking justice requires understanding who has been affected by these violations and how they shape our present. As Hafıza Merkezi, in line with our mission of confronting the past, we seek answers to these questions through documentation and reporting. You can access our work on different areas of violations below.

Violations of the Right to Life of Children and Young People in the Kurdish Region of Turkey

We documented right-to-life violations committed against children and young people in Kurdish region between 2000 and 2015 within the context of security-driven policies in Turkey. Through this documentation, we aimed to expose structural patterns of lethal force and negligence, reveal impunity mechanisms in legal processes, and record the experiences of children and youth whose lives were cut short.

Enforced Disappearances in Turkey

We documented hundreds of enforced disappearance cases that occurred in Turkey within the framework of counterterrorism strategies during the 1990s. Through this work, we sought to reveal the structure and patterns of enforced disappearance, to expose impunity mechanisms in the limited investigations and trials that were initiated, and to record the stories of those who were forcibly disappeared.
